I used to work for a counseling agency here in Lancaster. Pretty typical stuff, filing and scheduling, but it wasn’t bad. I couldn’t wait to get out though and move on to more important things, job-wise. I met your father there.
He was a counselor (TSS) and we would sometimes work in the same workstations. I was dating someone at the time, and so was he. We never really talked much about our relationships, more just work stuff, but he was nice and funny.
Then I had a horrible breakup with the man I was dating. He was crazy, showed up at my door demanding for me to punch him in the face (long story, but this can be verified by your Aunt Sarah). Once we broke up, I was single for several months and finally decided to give speed dating a try, just for fun.
At this point, I had just been hired by my current employer, and absolutely loved it. So I had just gotten a new job, and decided I needed to get my love life in order, so I went speed dating. It went really well, met some nice people, and got wonderful compliments on how pretty I was. Riding high, I decided on a whim to do karaoke. I finally went to the House of Pasta, a local restaurant and bar (with smoking-ugh) where one of my DJ friends were working. Once I put in my first song (Rolling in the Deep by Adele), I saw your father.
I walked up to him and we started chatting. At the time I didn’t know he had a crush on me for awhile, but we seemed to hit it off quite well. We began dating, moved in together, and less than 5 months later, I was pregnant with you.
I’d always wanted kids, but until then I had been afraid I couldn’t have any since my mom had a difficult time. Apparently not! Both your father and I were very excited, but he wasn’t actually the first person I told. I had begun feeling very tired and a little nauseous, so I took a test one morning and saw that it was positive. Afraid it was wrong, I waited until I went to work. There I blurted out the news to one of my coworkers. I tried the test again, and it came back positive again. I told my coworker, then texted my sister.
During my lunch break, I went to target and bought pacifiers, a bottle, and a pack of oneseis. I wrapped them in a bag, and took them home as a present. Your half-brother’s reaction was actually the one to open it and his reaction was priceless, he said, “This stuff is for babies!” with a great big smile :-).
Oh dear, I’ve gone on again lol. Well, I’ll save the rest for another time. I love you sweetheart. You’re the light of my life.
Love,
Mom
